The Opinion |
|
slowjane's second album, "a little while" is the kind of album that begs to be listened to again and again. Not because it takes time to grow on the listener. The excellent songwriting, musicianship, and harmonies make the album an instant hit. After you enjoy the songs just for the aural pleasure they provide, the lyrics start to sink in. That's what keeps you coming back to the album. The intensely personal lyrics are poignantly brought alive by the sweet soulful vocals of Laura and then boosted by the harmonies of Liska. Once you start listening to the lyrics (and not just hear the vocals), you can't help but feel the pain and loss expressed in the brutally honest lyrics. It's impossible for the listener not to be moved by the pure emotion found both in their meaning and delivery. The music provides the perfect accompaniment to the vocals. There is just as much heart and soul poured into the music as the lyrics. Every song makes for a great listen. Even if you don't delve into the lyrical content and just stay on the musical surface, the album never lets the listener down. With the clever hooks, intricate sound, and vocal harmonies, slowjane could sing the phone book and the listener's interest would never wane. Combine that with the truly amazing lyrics and "a little while" is an album that satisfies on all levels. The production on the album has the same attention to detail as the music and lyrics. The sound is absolutely amazing. Everything blends beautifully to create an atmosphere that wraps the listener and never relinquishes its hold. Any time you can listen to an album several times in a row, you know it's good. And with "a little while," you'll be glad you're CD player has repeat, because if it didn't, you'd wear out the play button. |
