Blue Lit Souls at Uncommon Ground - 11/28/01

Reviewed By Eric J. Olsen

The Opinion

As evident on their EP, the Blue Lit Souls, are not the average band by any means. Their truly amazing vocal harmonies, the use of ethnic rhythms, as well as combining the usual musical instruments with those that aren't so common (at least in most "popular" music), all that provides the listener with a unique sound and an extremely pleasurable experience. The big question is would they be able to pull off their "orchestral" feeling in the intimate setting of Uncommon Ground. The answer is a resounding "Yes!"

From the moment they started to play, they transformed the tiny coffeehouse room into a lush soundscape that lifted the audience out of this world. The Blue Lit Souls are the aural equivalent of transcendental meditation. And the best part is, they do all the work. The audience just has to listen to be taken away on the wings of the Blue Lit Souls' music.

They sounded incredible live. Listening to those harmonies by Kathryn Swezy and Kris Spilker, the audience is completely enraptured. Then you add the perfect musical complement underneath that (performed by Lou Carlozo on guitar, Mark Swezy on bass and didgeridoo, and Jim Quinn and Patric Roane on percussion and drums), and the audience is left with no choice but feel the power inherent in their music. If you want to have a concert experience like none other, check out the Blue Lit Souls. You won't be disappointed.

Nutshell Review

A performance that transcends the trendy giant coffee mugs and transports the audience to that place only the best music can take you.
