Chubby Nothin' & The Bone at Elbo Room - 11/18/00 |

The Opinion |

If the phrase, "blow the roof off the joint" hadn't already been penned, it would have after Chubby Nothin' & The Bone played the Elbo Room. Combining amazingly high levels of energy with some kick ass blues-funk-rock, these guys put on an unbelievable show. This was the kind of show that the audience hopes never ends, but when it does, they have no choice but to bask in the afterglow. The musical talent of the individual members is staggering. Throw them all together and you've got a musical force. With Luke Wilhite and Glenn Nelson wailing away on guitar, John Skach laying down the powerful backbeat, and Mike Wilhite funking everything up with his phenomenal bass, they've got all the bases covered. Then they add the triple vocal threat of Luke, Sara Stotts, and Colleen Heneghan. From the second they take the stage, you can't help but notice them. Their stage presence is really strong. Throughout the show, it's obvious that they love to be up there and have fun doing it. That translates into a great time for the audience as well. They never skipped a beat as they played off each other, both musically and comically. The tightness of the band was overwhelmingly evident as they blazed through their set. The sound was as good as it gets live. Everything was audible and blended together beautifully. Chubby Nothin' & The Bone have all the ingredients necessary for a great show. They even throw in some extra spices to kick everything up a few notches. |
