The Opinion |
|
Most of the time, melodic and hard rock go together like oil and water. But on "Half Hour Of Happiness" Slaveship have managed to pull off that tricky combination. The songs all have a hard rock edge to them, but at the same time, they each are well-written songs that have a gentle beauty about them. The groove created by the bass and drums is overlaid nicely by the fantastic guitarwork. Throw in powerful vocals and smart lyrics and the only end result is an album of great music. Rather than beat you over the head with their power, Slaveship slips it in on the side. Musically, the album is top shelf. The recording level should have been a bit higher, but other than that the album sounds great. All the various parts mesh well. Occasionally, the vocals drop a tad in the mix, but it doesn't detract from the overall presentation. Even though the album does contain the energy of a live performance, the strongest part of the album is the songwriting. These guys do an excellent job of writing catchy songs that have a melodic groove, yet still have power and aggression. Without lapsing into the past, Slaveship takes hard rock to the next level. |

Nutshell Review |

Hard rock the way it was meant to be played, melodic, original, and heavy. |
