The Opinion

Marina V's second release, "Lift," takes the foundation she laid down with her first release (Let Me Dream) and builds a skyscraper. Her songwriting has grown by leaps and bounds. The only downside to the album is that every track is so amazing, the listener wishes the album was longer.

On "Lift," Marina has taken not only her songwriting to a higher level, but also her voice. Although, she's always had an astounding voice, this time around, she uses it like another instrument, unlike a lot of singers that use their voice merely as means to deliver vocals. From the beautiful "I See The Snow" to the rocking "Losing My Mind," every song serves as an awesome platform for Marina's amazing vocal abilities. She also delivers every vocal with vast amounts of emotion. Even on the hidden track where Marina sings entirely in Russian, the listener can't help but feel the power behind her vocals - even if they can't understand a word.

The musicianship and production on the album couldn't be better. Throughout the various styles on the album, the energy remains high. The pure emotion behind the music and vocals set this album apart.

Although all good musicians grow from album to album, the difference between "Let Me Dream" and "Lift" is truly incredible. Her songwriting and vocal delivery have matured tremendously. Considering Marina has far exceeded the potential she displayed in her first album, the listener can't help but anticipate what Marina will do in the future. In the meantime, "Lift" promises to hold the listener's attention for a long time to come.

Nutshell Review

The perfect showcase for one of the best singer/songwriters on the scene today.
