Marina V at Elbo Room - 4/26/01

Reviewed By Eric J. Olsen

The Opinion

Anyone that has heard either of Marina's CD's (Let Me Dream and Lift) can't help but be impressed by the truly amazing voice she has. And when you see Marina live, the awe you have for her voice, grows exponentially. Throughout every song, Marina's voice is perfect.

This is not to say that the music isn't strong. With Nick Baker on bass, Dan Darnell on drums, Marc Waterman on guitar, and Marina added the occasional piano, the room is filled with great songs. Every member of the band played together and provided the perfect backdrop behind Marina's powerfully delivered lyrics.

Marina is more than just a voice, her stage presence is extremely strong. She's the kind of performer that plays to tens of thousands of fans, even when she's playing in a small room to a considerably smaller audience. The energy flowing between the band members to the audience and back to the band was practically visible. The audience couldn't help but be carried away by the show.

Nutshell Review

An unbelievable show where the strong songs and high energy are overshadowed only by that tremendous voice.
