The Opinion |
To say Milkbaby is not the typical band is like saying The Sears Tower is not the typical building. It not only proves a mastery of the obvious, but it's also a vast understatement. With Tracee Westmoreland supplying vocals, clicks, shakes, and various treatments, Barry Bennet adding djembes, congas, keyboards, treatments, and vocals, and David Lee Smith rounding out the lineup with his electric pads, kick drum, floor tom, as well as other treatments, there's absolutely nothing conventional about Milkbaby's performance. Their music is more of an ambient soundtrack than a focal point. They play the kind of material that makes you want to just sit back, close your eyes, and ponder life. Their stage presence contributed to that feeling. Although the music was excellent, it's not the typical sort of concert fare that people are used to. If you're looking for a mellow, laidback evening with interesting music, Milkbaby is definitely worth checking out. They sounded great. Although with the style of music Milkbaby plays and the way they deliver it, you could put on their disc, crank it up, and it would be almost the same as seeing them live. There wasn't a ton of energy flowing through the room. Milkbaby provides more of a background feel than an in-your-face concert experience. |

Nutshell Review |
Milkbaby's music would be ideal for film scores, but to see them live requires a certain kind of mood. |
