The Opinion |
|
Big Deal definitely has not screwed up this "One Car Funeral." These guys play straight-up rock and roll the way it should be. This album is a no-frills, high-energy thrill ride. No pretension can be found on this album, it's just four guys playing their hearts out. "One Car Funeral" is one of those rare albums that once you put it on, you can't ignore it. The solid groove laid down by Allan on drums and Steve on bass provides the perfect pedestal to showcase Mark's guitar work and Matt's vocals. Exhilarating would be a good word to describe Mark's playing. He's the kind of guitarist that really makes his guitar sing. The sound he achieves on the album and the profiency he plays with are inspired. The vocal stylings provided by Matt are refreshing. Filled with emotion, his vocals reach out and touch the listener (even if sometimes you have no idea what he's singing about). The way the album sounds is amazing. It's got that meaty sound to it, while still remaining extremely clean, which nicely complements Big Deal's style of songwriting. Whether it's ballsy rockers like "At Night" or heart-wrenching ballads like "Still They Go," these guys know how to craft their songs. The best example is "On The Break" with an awesome groove, killer guitars, and some very pleasing vocal melodies. When you listen to "One Car Funeral," you realize that Big Deal is a group of musicians that know their art and understand what it takes to bring their vision to life. This album was released two years ago and when you see them live, you can tell how much they've matured since they recorded it. And that's impressive when you listen to this exceptional album. |
