The Opinion

Heavy Duty Felt’s album entitled “Songs for the Week” is an enjoyable collection of songs that allow you lose yourself in the easygoing feel the music projects. You can hear a wide range of different influences which all work together nicely to create the relaxed mood of the record. If you had to choose a label for the music, I would categorize it as soft pop music. However, this would be a misnomer, as throughout the record you can hear tinges of country music blended with jazz mixed with rock.

Lead singer and songwriter, Tony Gudwein, does an excellent job on this record. His songwriting is strong and has surrounded himself with some superb musicians to help him out on this album. The first song, “Different Again” exhibits a great use of a violin which supports Mr. Gudwein’s softly sung lyrics beautifully. The second track “Sleight Of Hand” is definitely the strongest recording in the collection. This song makes excellent use of a horn section peppered with solid lyrics and an overall enjoyable feel to the music. The remaining tracks stay the course with high-quality musicianship and respectable songwriting.

Overall, I’d say this record is a good buy. If you’re looking for something that really rocks, this isn’t the buy for you. The entire album leans toward the soft pop end of the music spectrum, with the occasional stab into a groovier feel.

Nutshell Review

A high quality soft pop fusion release with fantastic musicianship and respectable songwriting.
