The Opinion

How do you describe Terata's "splurge?" You could say high-energy surf rock alternative punk pop. But it'd probably be easier and more accurate to just call it fun. A rockin' fun album that just makes you laugh. This album won't change the world, but it could brighten your day.

These guys aren't a joke though. Their playing is extremely solid. The songs get a little repetitive, but their energy and humor atone for that. They blaze through the songs with an intensity that rushes out and washes over the listener. Add the distinctive vocals with some interesting harmonies belting out humorous lyrics and Terata has created a unique album.

They do have the occasional serious foray, most notably on "War," where they question the pointless killing. But this album is essentially all about fun. But then what else could you expect when they have lyrics like "I'm a man, but I'm gonna love you like a lesbian." Or celebrating the inebriated lifestyle on "Drunks."

The high point of the album is the track, "Fluid." It has all the aspects that make this album good. It's got a funky little groove that just brightens the room. Nothing intricate just straight-up good time music. That's what Terata delivers on "splurge" and sometimes that's exactly what you need.

Nutshell Review

High-energy, fun-filled album guaranteed to liven up any party.
